Rewards And Recognition
Recognizing Martin Tamlyn
Mapleton's Organic Dairy has been honoured to receive many awards and special recognitions over their years in operation. For example, in 2006, Mapleton's received the Premier's Award for Agri-Innovation and in 2011, Mapleton's received the Ontario Organic Award for Direct Farm Marketing.
While it is always thrilling to receive an award, it is the opportunity to be a part of awarding and recognizing others that really fills us with joy.
Local Food Hero Award
Earlier this year, at the Wellington-Waterloo, National Farmers Union, Annual General Meeting, Martin de Groot had the opportunity to present a Local Food Hero award, on behalf of the N.F.U. Board, to Martin Tamlyn.
Martin Tamlyn has been a driving force behind establishing a local food community in the Moorefield and Drayton area. He previously organized and ran community and school tours at Mapleton's – sharing the message of local food and how Mapleton's ice cream moves from pasture to cone.
Conestogo River Local Food Co-op
Martin also established the Conestogo River Local Food Co-Op, helping community members to access local, healthy food and producers to sell their wares within 50km of their homes.
He now sits on the steering committee for the Local Organic Food Co-Ops Network, an organization of other food co-ops throughout Ontario, providing advice, workshops, and networking opportunities to these organizations.
Martin also runs permaculture and eco-building workshops and works with the Wellington County Green Legacy Program.
Congratulations on this honour, Martin! Our community is so lucky to have you.
